Stop Press! Amazing News! Year 12 Olivia joins the roll of Alleyn’s Design and Technology students who have succeeded in securing a prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship Award.

The ultra-competitive selection process takes in the region of 1600 nominated applicants through a series of rigorous steps; The initial stage consists of a detailed written application and Design and Technology Department reference followed by a two-hour design engineering Aptitude examination. This is used to short list approximately 600 for the final interview stage. In the region of 270 Scholarships are awarded to those who have consistently shown an aptitude for engineering and a passion to follow this as a career.

On securing the scholarship Olivia, who wants to be a Mechanical Engineer, said: "I was really surprised when I found out. I put a lot of work into the process, but I knew a lot of people had entered. I'm really pleased because since the age of seven I have wanted to be an engineer. I love understanding how stuff works and love the idea of changing things so they’re sustainable."

Each Arkwright Engineering Scholarship Award offers support in various different ways – from valuable hands-on work experience to support with curriculum projects through to a personal mentor who can help with studies and career planning.
