Congratulations to alumna Jessie Mills Davies (Cribb’s 2000) on the publication of her debut novel, ‘Rosalind’ in early February this year.
‘Rosalind’ is the story of scientist Rosalind Franklin, who, working in science in the 1950s - in what was a 'gentlemen’s profession' - is the invisible woman behind the discovery of DNA’s double helix. Despite Rosalind’s success in unlocking the very secret of life, the ultimate glory was claimed by her male counterparts.
Described as “A luminous, pin-sharp portrait of a true trailblazer” by writer Zoe Howe, “Excellent” by The Times and “One of the best novels I have read this year” by award-winning author Iris Costello, ‘Rosalind’ is a tale of hope and perseverance, love and betrayal.
Jessica’s hugely inspiring novel helps us gain a new appreciation of the contributions of women throughout the history of science and reminds us of the challenges that they have had to overcome.
Jessica is a journalist and author who has written for The Independent, The Wall Street Journal and Business Insider, where she investigated the use of flammable cladding in hospital intensive care units in 2020.
She spent several years as an Editor at Dow Jones, where she led the team that uncovered the misuse of funds at Abraaj. She was also a member of the steering committee for Women at Dow Jones.
Jessie's debut novel was longlisted for the Exeter Novel Prize 2020 and, on publication in February 2024, it was included in the list of best historical fiction for February by The Times.
Congratulations, Jessie on this inspiring and poignant novel which pays homage to women in STEM. To find out more and get a copy of the book, visit Jessie's website here.
