Year 12 students had the privilege of diving into the exciting world of digital futures with George Lambert (Brown’s 2005), Founder of Lambert Labs. As part of their Alleyn's Intelligence Quotient (AiQ) course, George returned to share his journey from Alleyn’s to an innovative career in the tech industry.

Eight years ago, George founded Lambert Labs, a successful Amazon Web Services consulting partner that helps companies and charities scale their digital infrastructure securely. His candid discussion revealed the challenges and triumphs of entrepreneurship, and the adaptability required in an industry that is constantly and quickly evolving.

George’s story resonated with students and encouraged them to think about their future careers. When he left Alleyn’s, he had never considered a career in technology - and Amazon Web Services didn’t even exist at the time. His insight into the different roles in tech from software development, coding and UX testing to marketing and sales, broadened students’ understanding of potential career paths.

He also emphasised resilience, sharing the reality of launching a business in an extremely fast-moving industry, where 90% of new companies fail within five years. His advice? Think ahead of the game, identify real-world problems, and design digital solutions that matter. And he encouraged students to skill up by tapping into the wealth of online resources readily available, like learning to code and utilising AI.

Through their AiQ Digital Futures course, Year 12s grapple with big questions about the role of technology in our lives, including: How can digital tools be applied to real-world challenges while keeping humanity at the core? When is it better to rely on human intuition over machines? And how can data be harnessed to create meaningful impact?

George’s session brought these questions to life, helping Year 12s gain a deeper understanding of the possibilities of real-world applications of digital tools. Students asked some insightful questions from ‘How do you get your first clients when you’re setting up a completely new company?’ to ‘Are there any specific subjects or degrees needed to break into this area of work?’

A huge thank you to George for coming back to Alleyn’s and for sharing his insights and motivation and giving students a deeper understanding of digital futures.
