A huge thank you to everyone who returned to Townley Road for the fantastic Alumni Decades Reunion on Saturday 22 March for a day filled with connection spanning six decades and friendships for life.
From the Class of 1965 who left Alleyn’s 60 years ago (including some who haven’t been back in almost as many years) through to those celebrating their 10 year reunion, and every decade in between, from an alumni dad and daughter, to couples who met at school, to lots of partners and children, and plenty of former teachers, we loved bringing you together to catch up, reconnect and see Alleyn’s today.
The reunion began with a welcome reception in the Great Hall – the site of many former assemblies, Music and Drama performances and Alleyn’s Speech Days and a chance to catch up with each other before decade groups photos in front of the iconic Main Building.
Tours of Alleyn’s today followed, led by current Year 12s and 13s who could share their own experiences as they showed alumni through the classrooms and corridors they remember so well as well as some of the changes since their school days, including the Chris Marvin Observatory, the pastoral centre of the School, The Well, and the new All Studios creative Hub.
During lunch in the Dining Hall, Head, Jane Lunnon thanked everyone for coming. She welcomed guests and shared how proud and grateful we are of our alumni community. She said:
“We are proud of what you are doing in your field, and we are prouder still of the values and kindness you show. And we are grateful for your support, in whatever way it comes. But above all, we are grateful for the legacy you give us.”
Reflecting on some of the things that connect us and drawing on the power of music to evoke memories, Jane shared the number one in the charts in March of the year each alumni group left Alleyn’s. Many served as wonderful metaphors for their time here, including:
- 1965: The Last Time by The Rolling Stones
- 1975: Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me) by Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel
- 1985: We are the World by the supergroup USA for Africa.
- 1995: Back for Good by Take That
- 2015: See You Again by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth.
And she saved the most poignant till last – McFly’s 2005 hit, It’s All About You!
About the day, Peter Marriott (Cribb’s 1965), said:
“Thank you so much for organising the Decades Reunion. It was great catching up with everybody and the tour round the school and seeing the changes since we were there was very interesting”.
We hope you all enjoyed reconnecting with old friends and teachers and the day brought back lots of happy memories! Thank you so much for joining us.
Photos from the reunion can be found on our Always Alleyn’s Flickr page.
We look forward to bringing the 6’s back together next year. Save the date for Saturday 21 March, 2026!
