Development and Alumni

During October half -term, Alleyn’s School made an exciting trip across the Atlantic to reconnect with our U.S. based alumni and support a school trip for Year 12 and 13 History and Politics students. The week kicked off in New York, where alumni joined the students for an exciting evening of ice hockey, cheering on the New York Islanders as they faced off against the Detroit Red Wings at the UBS Arena.

Later in the week, a reception organised by Jack Parry (Tyson’s, 2014) and hosted at "The Information Lab" brought together alumni and current students for a memorable evening of mentorship and advice-sharing.

This informal event allowed students to learn from alumni who have pursued diverse paths across the U.S., from speechwriting at the United Nations and studying finance at NYU to working at the New York Mayor’s Office and consulting in the aviation sector. Alumni generously shared their experiences, offering students invaluable insights and inspiration for their future careers. The reception also gave alumni a chance to catch up with some of their former teachers, including Miss Jenney, Dr. Kent, Dr. Hawes, and Mr Harley, who enjoyed reconnecting with former students and hearing about their professional journeys.

The trip continued with Director of Development, Frank Keenan, visiting recent Alleyn’s graduates now studying at prestigious U.S. universities such as UCLA, UC Berkeley, and Harvard. A highlight of the tour was watching Laurie Goddard (Spurgeon’s 2021), a student-athlete at Hofstra University, play his final regular season soccer game, where his team clinched a 4-0 victory to qualify for their conference tournament.

Alongside connecting with recent graduates, we had the pleasure of meeting older alumni including Leslie Moore (Tulley’s 1956), who shared stories of a career that took him across America before finally settling in San Francisco.

The trip fostered connections across generations, from recent graduates to long-standing alumni, strengthening Alleyn’s community ties and offering current students an inspiring glimpse into the possibilities their futures may hold.
