We were delighted to welcome pupils from 11 local state primary schools for Alleyn’s third Summer School. For five days, pupils from year 3, 4 and 5 arrived at 8 am for breakfast and then participated in various lessons. (There’s been Drama, Design Technology, Maths, Literacy, Art and Swimming to name a few…) They were then offered a hot lunch and participated in sports activities in the afternoon.
Ben Jones, Director of Partnerships said: “The aim of summer school is to encourage pupils to engage positively with education before the start of another school year. It is wonderful to see the visiting pupils come out of their shell and grow in confidence over the week. They are so bright, and and ask such excellent questions! We’re so proud of the teachers and volunteers who help us offer this service for free, proudly displaying the ROCCK values of our school. A big thanks to Zara who helps coordinate the whole scheme and teaches swimming to the pupils.”
Zara Long, (Brown's 1989) said: “As an alumna of Alleyn’s I’m only too aware of the excellent opportunities I was offered at this school. It’s so important to me that we give back to these families and offer a memorable experience to these pupils. I want them to go back to school in September feeling positive and inspired.”
