Thank you to Oddballs Ambassador Noah Baker (Tyson's 2020) for coming back to Alleyn’s to give a powerful talk to Year 9 pupils about testicular cancer on 15 June.

During their PSHE session, Year 9s heard from Noah about the warning signs of testicular cancer, how a diagnosis is made and about treatment of the condition. He explained that testicular cancer is the most common type of cancer to affect men between the ages of 15 – 49 and it is not just a concern for men but it’s important for everyone to be aware of.

He shared the Oddballs Check Yourself Guide, reducing stigma of talking about testicular cancer and encouraging men and boys to check themselves for any signs or symptoms.

He encouraged pupils to always seek support if they ever have any concerns and, remembering how helpful he found the Alleyn’s community to be, he said:

“If you should ever be affected by testicular cancer, lean on your networks here at School – your form tutors, the brilliant nurses, everyone around you. Everyone here wants to help you so don’t be afraid to speak up and use that.”

He also talked about the importance of remaining positive. Testicular cancer, he said, is one of the most treatable types of cancer.

As an Oddballs ambassador during his time at Manchester University, Noah has worked to raise awareness of testicular cancer and of The OddBalls Foundation, delivering talks in schools, universities and businesses.

Thank you, Noah for a powerful and insightful talk. It was brilliant to have you back and we wish you the best of luck in starting your teacher training after the summer.
