It was an explosive Number Day this year with the highlight being a highly interactive show brought to us by the Royal Institution which we enjoyed in the company of Heber school! It was all about the energy in food - jelly babies were set alight and funnels of flour turned into flaming columns. The children were excellent sports and offered themselves up as volunteers to see how much we experience taste through our noses and to demonstrate how the detection of phenylthiocarbamide is something we inherit from our parents (and predicts whether or not we will like Brussel sprouts).

The children also took part in reciting numbers in a variety of languages to other classes (including Turkish, Japanese and Slovakian), memorising the digits of Pi (unbelievably impressive, with some children exceeding 150 digits!) and creating posters that explored the careful (and mathematical) art of planning. We had plans for parties, trips and holidays; found out about the ingredients in pizzas and cakes; and explored everything from small-scale 3D bedroom designs to whole solar systems. There was also a number quiz based around number-related facts about our very own Junior School staff and plenty of children have also been getting involved in solving a range of number riddles which have been posted around the school each day this week.

The children took part whole-heartedly and it was a brilliant day.
