The whole Senior School went off timetable today for a packed day of fun and learning outside of the classroom for Field Day.

Every pupil took part in a co-curricular activity which ranged from day trips connected to what they are studying, to Career Days for the older pupils, as well as CCF or DofE activities, camps and expeditions on site and out in the field.

Lower School

Year 7s went on a trip to Rochester as part of their Geography course. During the day pupils investigated the site, situation and sustainability of the town through visiting Rochester Castle and Cathedral, the High Street and the Riverside development area. They also carried out fieldwork at each location as well as practised their map reading skills.

Year 8s learnt about the broad and vibrant culture of India to enrich their awareness of certain customs, festivals, and sport and leisure activities, all of which originate in Indian society and the spiritual nature of its philosophy and religion.

Pupils took part in activities to enrich their understanding of the Holi Festival which celebrates colours, love, and spring, and the triumph of good over evil. They also took part in Bollywood dancing, Kabaddi, Diya lamp painting, yoga, and watched a Bollywood film. Pupils enjoyed an Indian-inspired lunchtime menu, as well as a Hindi playlist to expose them to the exotic world of Indian pop music. They were also treated to a fascinating talk delivered by our very own Senior Deputy Head, Mr Skinnard, on the history of the India we know today.

The sessions provided an opportunity to build on their deep cultural awareness through exposure to other communities within our increasingly diverse and interconnected world.

Middle School

Year 9s were off site for the day with a fantastic range of trips from cycling around the Herne Hill velodrome to a DT trip to the V&A and Year 9 artists had the chance to visit Saatchi Gallery and Dulwich Picture Gallery.

A large number of Year 10 pupils put their map reading skills into action with DofE expedition walks in Leith Hill and Wimbledon Common. While, on site, other Year 10 volunteering pupils were busy baking treats to provide a glorious afternoon tea to elderly people supported by Link Age Southwark.

Upper School

Army and RAF cadets were onsite participating in a round-robin of activities including flight simulation and other VR activities and designing and building gliders which they put to the test with varying success but a lot of fun! Thirty-eight Year 10, 12 and 13 CCF cadets and Non-Commissioned Officers CCF NCOs are braving the elements with an overnight exercise, camping under a basha (waterproof sheet). They also had the chance to take part in a 24 hour Tri-Service fieldcraft activity, undertaking lowlight infantry operations during dark hours, in preparation for a day of blank firing, signals training and green skills.

Year 12 students had a full day of careers sessions and talks to prepare them for life beyond Alleyn’s and our Year 13 students had a full study day.

We also welcomed pupils from Dog Kennel Hill Primary School into our Science labs to learn more about Telescopes and the Observatory and Colour.
