This week marks the launch of the expanded Alleyn’s Academy.

Every Tuesday afternoon Alleyn’s buzzes with children visiting from local schools as they enjoy a programme of afterschool activities. Now, alongside a wonderful range of sport offered as part of the Alleyn’s Sports Academy, we are delighted to add the Alleyn’s Music Academy and the Alleyn’s Digital Academy to our weekly Partnership offering.

The Alleyn's Academy was launched two years ago as an after-school activity programme for children from local schools initially to participate in a range of sporting activities. This wonderful weekly opportunity, running throughout the year, has provided chance to share resources with our local community, to provide pupils with engaging ways to explore new interests and develop new skills, to break down barriers to access and, above all, to give local children enormous fun.

And the programme has been so popular, so effective and indeed such fun, that we have this week opened the programme further with the inclusion of Music and Digital Literacy.

Alleyn’s Academy: Digital

This exciting new project to brings coding, enterprise and tech entrepreneurship to the lives of a group of around eighty young people from local schools as well as a number from Alleyn’s. This collaborative programme sees children develop problem solving skills as they learn about design and future-focused thinking based on the emerging technology of the metaverse and learn the skills to develop an arcade game.

Alleyn’s Academy: Music

Up to fifty Year 5s from local Primary schools are welcomed to learn to sing, to be part of a choir and to perform their pieces as part of a public show later in the year. During each six-week rotation, and supported by Year 9 Alleyn’s students,  children learn the fundamentals of good singing practice, including work on posture, correct breathing and vocal techniques and in doing so learn a variety of repertoire and sing in two and three-part harmony.

Alleyn’s Academy: Sport

Around eighty children from Year 4 to Year 6 supported by qualified sports staff – including volunteers from Girls United football, Tulse Hill & Dulwich Hockey Club and Old Alleynian’s Rugby Club – as well as Year 10 and 11s from Alleyn’s, enjoy coaching and competitive fixtures in a range of sports including hockey, rugby, basketball and football using the brilliant Alleyn’s sports facilities.

“We got such amazing feedback from the session”
Deputy Head. Dulwich Wood Primary School

“I’ve caught up with a few of the ones who came on Tuesday to the first Music session and they loved it!”
Assistant Head, The Belham Primary

We hope to continue to expand the Alleyn’s Academy programme using it as a platform and launchpad for other exciting Alleyn’s Partnership work and in doing so increase our community impact and increase our pupils’ interaction with those from other schools.
