On Tuesday 29th November evening we had the chance to hear Alleyn's senior musicians in a concert featuring Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Choir, Chamber Orchestra & Jazz Band held in the beautiful surroundings of St Barnabas Church.

The evening opened with Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mr Fish, Assistant Director of Music (Academic) who commented that: 'Symphony Orchestra performed movements from symphonies by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Mahler and Florence Price - all highly mature and contrasting pieces.  The orchestra captured the varying styles and captivated the audience with their committed performances.'

The concert continued with Chamber Choir performing with the Bach Orchestra led by Mr Dearmer, Director of Music who observed that 'Chamber Choir performed Bach's Cantata 140, Wachet auf, with incredible energy, poise, and commitment. Ably accompanied by the student-led Bach Orchestra, pupils collectively gave an uplifting and joyous performance of this most life-affirming piece of music.

After an interval replete with festive mulled wine and mince pies the evening continued with the Chamber Orchestra conducted by Ms Jo Doley, Head of Strings; she reflected that: 'A very moving performance of Tchaikovsky's Andante cantabile was central to Chamber Orchestra's performance in the Sr Cecilia's Concert.  To witness how a small ensemble, spanning all year groups, rose to the occasion and dealt with specific challenges on the day was a privilege, a true team effort!  Congratulations to everyone for a marvellous evening of music.'

The concert concluded with Jazz Band conducted by the inimitable Mr Ned Bennett, Head of Wind and Brass who remarked that 'Jazz Band really rose to the occasion, playing The Incredibles theme with great energy and excitement. Their Christmas medley was as cheesy as it gets, but a fitting way to end the concert...apart from the surprise Brass Quintet playing outside afterwards!'

A truly memorable evening with clear dedication on display from all of the hundred or so Alleyn's musicians involved.
