On Thursday 3 February, we welcomed the Prime Ward the Right Hon Mark Maffey and Mrs Maffey for tea with the Year 10 Saddlers' Scholars. This annual occasion is one of several meetings between the Saddlers and Alleyn's that take place throughout the year. Last term, the Year 9 scholars visited Saddlers Hall.

An arrangement of delicious tea and cakes was served and the six Scholars engaged in lively conversation with our guests. Director of Studies Mr Sproat-Clements said, "It was wonderful to welcome the Saddlers to Alleyn’s again this week; their continuing support has helped promote academia within our community and it was a real joy for our scholars to spend time talking with them. I look forward to working with them closely as we prepare to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our partnership".

Since 1971 over 300 Saddlers’ scholars have passed through the gates of Alleyn’s, and the School’s association with the worshipful company of Saddlers remains as important and as relevant as it has ever been. The company has had a transformative impact on both the School and the scholars, who are chosen from the successful 11+ cohort each year by the Head, and there is a great deal of pride attached to being a Saddlers’ scholar.
