We are excited to announce the inaugural Alleyn’s Multicultural Week (MCW) which runs from 7 to 11 February. During the week, we will be sharing a programme of activities with the school community including a multicultural dance workshop, an African drumming workshop, a MCW-inspired pupil concert, a series of talks by visitors such as coach and motivational speaker Stuart Lawrence, and Helena Lee, editor of East Side Voices: Essays celebrating East and Southeast Asian identity in Britain.

In advance of MCW, we asked our pupils and teachers about how they would describe the cultures they identify with and received an incredible number of responses about their heritage, countries they have lived in, language and food and popular culture. We were particularly interested to hear what makes them proud about their culture. Some said they were most proud of their national football team whilst others loved that they still have connections to countries their families came from.

Whatever the answers, it is clear that Alleyn’s is a community made up of an incredible mix of heritage, culture and identities and we are thrilled to celebrate all of them and invite everyone to learn about each other.

Parents can find up-to-date information about Multicultural Week on the MCW hub page.

And please enjoy these short films which are a window into how truly diverse we are as a community.
