Students took part in open and collaborative discussions this week to address the current national conversation around the treatment of women and girls.
Values such as mutual respect, trust and kindness were all explored, as pupils worked in House or tutor groups to determine what these might look like in our everyday life at school.
The sessions were carefully prepared by teachers and led by the School Captain, Vice Captains and Prefects with support from colleagues.
Outcomes from the discussions will be explored and used alongside contributions from parents and alumni to shape the creation of a new Alleyn's Equality Charter. This framework is intended to chime with all our community and will be reviewed annually in order to make sure it keeps pace with the important topics of our time.
When introducing the sessions in an assembly earlier this week, Head Jane Lunnon advised pupils to honest and open, and said: "What we hope to do, is to move forward positively from this. I and the prefects and others here hope that from these discussions, we can come up with the Alleyn’s charter or a code– a set of guidelines, that come from you, that say how we do gender equality here at school. What it means to us. What it involves. We really need your input into that and we very much look forward to it. "
As part of the School's wider commitment to encouraging pupils to make their voices heard on issues they care about, many pupils and staff took the opportunity to wear red on Thursday to show solidarity with women everywhere.
Junior School Open Day
The next Alleyn's Junior School Open Event is from 1.30pm to 3pm on Wednesday 22 May 2024. There will be a Head's Talk at 1.40pm after which you will be offered a tour of the school with a pupil. There is no need to book a place at this Open Event - everyone is welcome.
