On Wednesday 24th February, Alleyn's 1st team netball Captain, Cassie, led a brilliant interview with one of England's most famous and talented netballers, Sasha Corbin. Sasha shared her fascinating sporting life, which began with her involvement in gymnastics and athletics.

After being tempted over to netball by the alure of a tour to South Africa, Sasha has never looked back. She has played for several different teams in the Netball Superleague, currently captaining the Saracens Mavericks, and has also competed in the ANZ premiership. She spoke about her lengthy international career, what motivates her, and what it is like to be from a family of international sportspeople as well as the highs and lows of her career. From representing England U19s at the age of 16 and playing in the Commonwealth Games, to overcoming a ruptured Achilles and ACL tear, Sasha shared her advice on reaching your potential.

She said: “You don’t have to be the best to go far. Ask questions when you don’t understand something, continuously learn and push yourself and work to be better every time you play.” She added the importance of being open minded in sport to adapt to different circumstances, whether it be a change in position (she was asked to become a Wing Attack during the U21 England trials, having always played Goalkeeper) or motivating yourself to train on your own during lockdown.

The audience of 80 pupils asked a range of interesting questions, from Sasha's ideal dinner party guests, her 'flair' style of netball and how she maintains motivation. One of Sasha's most intriguing revelations was her on-court mindset which centres around the phrase 'catch me if you can', and the inner confidence that it is her who is controlling her opponent - rather than vice versa. She was also asked about her hopes for the profile of women’s netball and how she manages balancing a job alongside playing sport at an elite level.

We encourage all netballers to have a look at Sasha’s business - Solo sessions - which has amassed huge netball following on Instagram and YouTube and to try some of Sasha's solo skill sessions!
