On Wednesday, 11 November, the whole Alleyn’s community came together in an act of Remembrance.
Livestreamed to all Junior and Senior School pupils and staff across the School, the service began with an opening address from Reverend Liz Lander who remembered and honoured the sacrifice of those who have died in the service of their country. She said: "We take this time to reflect, to pause and to be thankful for all those who throughout history and presently have sacrificed for us all.” She remarked that it was moving to know that we were all in our different classrooms and offices to mark the moment together.
Year 13 Cadets then performed a poignant ceremonial drill sequence in the quad, followed by Year 10 musician, Zeb, announcing the start of a 2-minute silence by sounding the Last Post.
Usually, a special service is held on Remembrance Sunday bringing Alleyn’s CCF and Edward Alleyn Club together in conjunction with CCF from Dulwich College and JAGS. With Covid-19 restrictions in place, a smaller service was held in the Great Hall and filmed to share with the community. This morning’s service gave our Cadets an opportunity to continue to play a central part in our act of Remembrance and a chance for the whole community to come together.
Interim Headmaster, Andy Skinnard, thanked those involved in the service and commented on how moved he was. He said: “Aside from my usual emotional reaction to seeing our staff and pupils do something so excellently, I was struck by how this enabled us to have a whole-school experience at a time of great fracture. It allowed us to link strongly with our past but to be together in the present.”
Junior School Open Day
The next Alleyn's Junior School Open Event is from 1.30pm to 3pm on Wednesday 22 May 2024. There will be a Head's Talk at 1.40pm after which you will be offered a tour of the school with a pupil. There is no need to book a place at this Open Event - everyone is welcome.
