Various school caps have been nominated by Old Boys. David Cornes (Tn, 1947-52) suggests the cap ‘with the quadrant showing house colours that we used to carry in our pockets and place upon our heads before coming into sight of the prefects at the gate.’ One of John Palmer’s (Bn 1954-61) most ‘abiding memories of the school is the skull cap, which was worn in very few schools, and the danger of not wearing it until near school in case of being caught by a prefect.’ He recalls that ‘in the first two years we wore a full cap with the school badge on front, but in the later years a cap that fitted on the back of the head with two panels in the house colours, i.e. for a boy in Brown’s House they were green.
