Robert Young, long-serving history master at Alleyn’s from 1935-71, privately published his memoir Before I Forget. David Hankin (Spurgeon’s, 1971-78), Vice-President of the Edward Alleyn Club, has suggested Robert Young’s book as ‘it’s a warts and all account of his years at Alleyn’s. “Loopy” Young ran athletics at the school for many years and was also Housemaster of Tulley’s [1945-71]. Bob Young is remembered affectionately by so many former pupils, for his insight, intellect and invention at instruction. He was never wary of standing up to the authorities at Alleyn’s and Before I forgetshines an at times irreverent light onto what happened at Alleyn’s over nearly four decades – not to mention his account of his own impressive war record.’
Junior School Open Day
The next Alleyn's Junior School Open Event is from 1.30pm to 3pm on Wednesday 22 May 2024. There will be a Head's Talk at 1.40pm after which you will be offered a tour of the school with a pupil. There is no need to book a place at this Open Event - everyone is welcome.
