AOB Arthur Stanley Paterson (Lieutenant, Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry) attended Alleyn's from April 1899 until November 1904 and died on 2 October 1918. The centenary of his death will be commemorated today at 11:50am at All Saints Church, Banstead, Surrey where he lived after moving from Streatham.
The 8th (Service) Battalion of the  Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry were formed at Bodmin in September 1914, and attached to 79th Brigade in 26th Division. On 13 November 1915 the Battalion sailed from Marseilles for the port of Salonika in Greece. A S Paterson took part in the third Battle of Doiran, was wounded and then captured by the Bulgars. In his last hours, he was comforted by the kind attentions and ministrations of another Old Boy, the Rev. E. C. Hudson, who later buried him at Karasuli Military Cemetery.

Read more about him on the website of the Banstead History Research Group  and also in the Edward Alleyn Club magazine of December 1918
