On Wednesday, we celebrated our Day of Languages. During morning assembly, we shared language facts, Greek sayings and showcased some of the learning we have been doing in our French classes. We also had a guest visit via video of ex-Alleyn’s pupil Christopher Peilow.  Christopher, being fluent in French and Spanish, works internationally as a TV producer, interviewing the biggest names in football!  He showed us what opportunities we could have if we keep learning languages.

At lunch-time children feasted on a ‘Language Lunch’, which included Chinese sweet and sour chicken with vegetable rice and the children’s favourite Spanish churros with chocolate sauce for dessert. There was also a ‘tasting table’ with onion bhajis, Greek style tapas, mini pizzas and spicy sausages amongst other treats. A huge thank-you goes to the catering team for their hard work and creative ideas.

Lunch-time was made particularly special by our parent/carer volunteers who came in to teach a language to small groups of children. Children had the opportunity to learn several languages including Chinese, Swedish, Danish, French, Dutch, Mandarin, American, Estonian, Indonesian, Greek, Japanese, Italian, German, Australian and Spanish. The children came out of the language sessions smiling and sharing what they had learned. Thank you to all who helped us.
