Thirty-eight Alleyn’s alumni and two current Year 13 students were awarded their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award this year, and we were delighted that so many could come together at a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace Gardens to celebrate their achievements.

The Gold Award, which involves five demanding sections including volunteering, physical, skill, expedition, and residential sections, requires passion, determination and resilience and stands recipients in good stead for the future, no matter the path they take.

The celebration at Buckingham Palace Gardens gave our students and alumni the chance to come together to share their memories of muddy expeditions and recognise their achievements with each other, their guests and Alleyn’s staff, Mr Alldrick and Mr Green.

Guests heard from His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh as well as inspirational guest speakers including Charley Boorman, Sally Orange, Katherine Kelly, Dwayne Fields, Susannah Townsend MBE and John Simpson CBE. They also had the chance to explore the gardens, hear military bands and enjoy garden games.

Following the award presentations, the Alleyn’s Gold Award holders were invited, with their friends and family, to the Phoenix in Victoria for drinks and refreshments and a chance to catch up.

Alleyn’s Duke of Edinburgh's Award Coordinator, Mr Alldrick, said:

“I am immensely proud of all 40 Alleyn’s School DofE Gold recipients invited to celebrate at Buckingham Palace. Enjoy every second - you deserve it!”

Congratulations to all of our award recipients.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme at Alleyn’s is always popular and is one of the largest programmes in the south-east of England.
