Year 10 scientists had the incredible opportunity to hear from five of Britain’s top scientists at the GCSE Science Live! event at the Dominion Theatre in London on 24 February.

During the day-long event, GSCE pupils were inspired by five scientists at the forefront of their specialisms, including: distinguished scientist in human fertility, Professor Robert Winston; Professor of Physics and author Jim Al-Khalili; Neuroscientist and author Dr Hannah Critchlow; presenter of the BBC’s iconic astronomy programme The Sky At Night, Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock; and Chemist and broadcaster Professor Andrea Sella.

From the worlds of space science to a voyage of conscious discovery into neuroscience, the engaging and energetic presentations gave our pupils the chance to raise issues with the scientists and gain an invaluable understanding that science really does offer solutions for many of the world’s great problems.

2nd in Physics, Julie Franco, said:

“The Science Department were delighted to be able to give Year 10s the opportunity to hear from a collection of scientists so prominent in their respective fields. The event will no doubt encourage an interest in Science that lasts for many years.”

The event was a huge success with our pupils. Year 10 pupil Matilda said that the talks "portrayed science in a new light," and Seren, also in Year 10, added: "My favourite speaker was Professor Andrea Sella because he was very engaging and exciting."
