Congratulations to Year 12 student Maya, pictured here with Junior School pupils, for making it to the finals of the Gresham Competition.

Gresham College has been providing free public lectures since 1597 when Sir Thomas Gresham's vision of a college to bring the ‘new learning’ to Londoners was realised. Today they carry on Sir Thomas's vision, bringing some of the world's most brilliant minds to speak in fields ranging across the arts and sciences.

The Gresham Competition is a competition which invites students to record and submit a short presentation on a particular topic, answering one of a set of questions provided. It is designed to promote the art of communicating complex information in a clear, concise, and compelling way.

This year’s competition topic was sustainability, and there was a choice of 5 questions to choose from to answer.

Alleyn’s Year 12 student Maya answered the question: What is the greatest positive environmental change you expect to see in your lifetime?

Maya’s response, submitted through a 5-minute video, made the case that individuals will increase the demand for renewable technology. Her submission was then shortlisted from 360 other entries and qualified for the final along with 10 other participants, were she presented in person in front of a prestigious panel of judges and an audience.
