The weekend before school had even started, the Alleyn’s Fives team was already on the road at 6am, heading to Sherborne School for the West of England Fives Championship.

The tournament was split into two age groups, and in the under 16s side Yarin finished as the singles runner-up, beating the first seed in his semi-final to get there. Yarin then partnered Gabriel in the doubles to make it to the semi-finals together. In the senior age group, last year’s under 16 champions Laurie and Theo, both reached the quarter finals in the singles and, partnering up with each other, made it to the semi-finals in the doubles.

With an odd number of senior players available for the tournament, Eli formed a “scratch pairing” with a player from Sherborne School. The pair called themselves “Sheyn’s,” and went on to win the highly contested Doubles Plate, narrowly avoiding a three-way tie.

A massive thank you to Mr Ody for organising the trip, and to Miss Rutherford, Dom, and Howard for coming with us. What a way to kick off the Lent Term!
