Since the start of term, students have been practising their tangoes every Wednesday with ballroom dance teachers Paul and Sarah in preparation for the Interhouse Ballroom Dancing Competition. They were able to choose these lessons as an option for their Senior Games afternoon on Wednesdays.

There were 11 pairs, representing Roper’s, Brading’s, Dutton’s, Brown’s, Tyson’s, Cribb’s and Spurgeon’s, dancing in the Great Hall.

The event, organised by the PE Department, consisted of an opening heat where three couples went through to the semi-final. The remaining eight couples danced again and four more couples were then selected to go through to the semi-finals.

Of that seven pairs in the semi-final, five were chosen to dance in the final:

Alex and Edith (Brown’s)

Angelina and Eddie (Brown’s)

Grace and Milla Law (Dutton's

Max and Malaika (Brown’s)

Moji and Esmée (Tyson’s)

Following a nail-biting wait as the judges adjudicated, the winners were… Grace and Milla! Grace shared how she felt about the experience:

"The teachers were brilliant and it was a wonderful to learn a challenging sequence and be able to present our progress to our teachers after ten weeks. It was very interesting to learn a new style of dance, which was very different to anything I had done before, and I would love to continue with it!"

All the dancers were heartily congratulated and awarded trophies by Mrs Lunnon.

None of the couples had any experience of ballroom dancing before they began this term and they have all be on an incredibly journey with their amazing coaches, Paul and Sarah. What a wonderful experience and one we hope will become a House tradition!
