The whole school went off timetable today for Field Day. Every pupil took part in a co-curricular activity which ranged from day trips connected to what they are studying, to Higher Education and Career Days for the older pupils, as well as CCF or D of E activities and camps and expeditions.

Learn more about what our pupils got up:

Lower School

Year 7 headed to London Zoo today for a day of biology focusing on endangered species, which links in with what they have been studying this term.

Year 8 went to the Science Museum, where pupils got the chance to see a film in the IMAX cinema and explore the Museum and get curious by taking part in a session in the Wonderlab.

Middle School

Year 9 Army and RAF cadets, along with associated NCOs were onsite participating in a round robin of activities including a mobile climbing wall, laser clay pigeon shooting & other activities related to the CCF curriculum.

Year 9 pupils who do not take part in CCF or DofE stayed on site to complete a One Day Film School, run by the Young Film Academy. They took part in sessions on film history, fight choreography, screenwriting, camera, and editing, before making short films in groups which were premiered at the end of the day, with the Oscar for Best Picture presented by our Head, Jane Lunnon.

Year 10 Duke to Edinburgh Award pupils headed out to practice their map and compass skills.

Whilst, Year 10 Army cadets got pushed out of their comfort zones for a day of Adventure Training and Leadership teamwork activities at Go Ape in Battersea Park, including a range of high rope activities.

Unfortunately, due to poor weather our Year 10 CCF RAF cadets who anticipated a flying experience at RAF Wittering in Peterborough instead had to divert to the Imperial War Museum in Duxford for a rather less hair-raising day of activities.

Our Year 10 and 12 volunteers hosted tea party with Link Age Southwark for their local elderly service users. Students spent the morning baking and preparing sandwiches for an afternoon tea party.

Year 11 Duke of Edinburgh Award pupils took part in a Mountain First Aid course at School including learning CPR.

Our Year 11 CADRE section and accompanying NCOs headed to Mereworth Woods Training Area for an overnight training exercise on Thursday 13  and return today.

Our Year 9 and 10 Royal Navy section and accompanying NCOs to Shadwell Basin for a variety of water-based training activities, as well as a visit to Museum of London (Docklands).

Upper School

For Year 11 pupils who did not take part in CCF or DofE a day trip to the coding school 01 Founders.

Year 12 students who are new to Alleyn’s and joined our Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award, took part in a mini-expedition which involved a 10 mile hike.

For Year 12 students not taking part in CCF trips as NCOs or DofE chose from one or the following trips:

  • East Dulwich Picturehouse: A private showing of Do The Right Thing in the morning followed by their choice from what is being shown in the afternoon.
  • Tate and the Globe: A trip to Tate Modern in the morning and then a matinee performance of Much Ado About Nothing. Students will experience what it was like visiting the theatre in the days of William Shakespeare and Edward Alleyn with standing tickets in the Yard.
  • National Gallery: A trip to the National Gallery, including entry to the new Lucian Freud exhibition "New Perspectives".
  • History Walk: A guided walk from Tower Bridge focusing on the Stuarts and then onto the Clink Museum.

Finally, Year 13 students had a full day of UCAS sessions and talks to prepare those applying to university this year or post A-level, which included interview preparation work for early applicants.
