"Many will be aware of the enormous growth in the use of Virtual Reality technology and its rapid rise in influence.  Whether it be learning, meeting, exploring, designing, creating or playing, VR will increasingly impact how we develop and interact. As part of our plans to introduce the effective use of the technology at Alleyn’s we are keen not only for our students to learn by using pre-developed VR content, but in these early days of the technology, learn to be creators and designers of VR software as well."  Director of Science, Ben Jones

Today was the start of a one-and-a-half-day workshop for a small number of Year 10s and 11s who, under the supervision of Alleyn’s staff and a post-graduate student from Goldsmiths University - renowned for their VR Masters courses – started to learn about VR technology for themselves and develop first-steps skills in the development platform Unity.  This experience aims to give our students access to the skills and knowledge required to build a (likely rudimentary!) VR experience which we hope they will be keen to develop independently and share with others.

This morning pupils got to grips with the Oculus Quest 2 headsets and this afternoon were introduced to the history of VR and found out ‘What is VR and what is it used for?’ Tomorrow they’ll start designing and building their very own 3D environments.
