In 2020 a group of friends from the Alleyn’s class of 1980, thwarted by the pandemic, decided to get together on Zoom to celebrate the 40th anniversary they’d missed. And then they kept on meeting through the lockdowns.
Out of these gatherings came the idea of giving something back. The subject that struck a chord was young people’s mental health. They linked up with The Maudsley Charity , raising funds for their ‘Change The Story’ campaign which exists to improve care, support recovery and prevent mental illness for young people. And last year one of the 1980 cohort – Rohan Candappa (Brading's 1980) – did a Spoken Word show online, and that became the collecting bucket into which money was chucked.
Million-selling author Rohan says "The consensus was that this was about one generation reaching back to help another that was struggling. And proving that when we come together, we can make a difference."
This year we’re very happy to say that Alleyn’s is staging ‘Changing Stories’ – a performance created by Rohan and featuring a collection of tales told by a cast of excellent actors. It’s a funny, thought-provoking, moving show and promises to be a great occasion, for a great cause. All are welcome to come along and be a part of it.
You can book tickets for the performance which will take place in the MCT on 18 June at 5pm here.
Alternatively, if you are unable to come in person but would like to be a part of it, Rohan has come up with the idea of buying 'ghost tickets'.
