It is hard to believe that another World Book Day has come and gone already. It was Miss Ellen White’s first World Book Day at Alleyn’s, and she has been delighted to see all of our staff #Shelfies and 'I am reading…' photos coming in over the last week. It is so interesting to see what kinds of shelvers we have in the community, from strict colour-coders to traditional alphabetisers. The display is still up by the library counter if anyone wishes to have a nosy at their teachers’ shelves.
We were also keen to get the pupils involved with Book Bingo in the Middle School and a World Book Day quiz in the Lower School. Our Middle School pupils were full of excellent and interesting book recommendations, many of which we now have on display. Congratulations to Tilly in Year 8, who was the winner of our book quiz!
The icing on the cake of this year’s festivities was our author visit from Professor Anthony Kessel. Anthony is not only an accomplished public health physician but also a talented children’s author. He delivered an exciting talk about writing mysteries, mental health, and how his own medical background influences his writing. With the help of some enthusiastic volunteers, he then delivered a reading from his book, The Five Clues, before signing copies for a long queue of keen readers. We hope that the pupils enjoyed the event and thank Anthony for making the trek from North London to be with us for this event.
