On Thursday 23 September, Alleyn’s celebrated European Day of Languages – which officially falls on Monday 26 September this year – with a programme of activities across the whole school.
The day started with breakfast pastries with a European flavour and continued into lunch prepared by our wonderful catering staff consisting of dishes from Italy, Spain, Germany, France and more. During lunch break, many more activities took place including a concert in the Great Hall, a cookery demonstration and competition and a talk by guest speaker Hernando Álvarez, a BBC journalist and editor. After school, there was special screening in the MCT of foreign language shorts.
The following day, Years 9-13 attended House meetings where they received a language taster from bilingual members of their House and words from teachers and members of the Alleyn’s community about how languages have shaped their lives.
The next Alleyn's Junior School Open Event is from 1.30pm to 3pm on Wednesday 22 May 2024. There will be a Head's Talk at 1.40pm after which you will be offered a tour of the school with a pupil. There is no need to book a place at this Open Event - everyone is welcome.
