The simulation, Amplify Me, was led by Anthony Cheung, Head of Market Analysis at the company, gave A level Economics students - and pupils in Year 11 interested in Economics - some useful initial insight into the markets, leading them through some basic principles of Economics and Trading.
Pupils then downloaded the app and, in teams, played three mini games within it, making decisions on whether to buy, sell or hold gold, bonds and shares while reacting to a ‘squawk box’, a news feed that announced events that would affect market expectations. The three games were on Inflation (CPI), Covid-19 and the vaccine, and trading in the US.
Pupils were competing head-to-head with pupils from Eton and Charterhouse to see who could make the most money, and one Alleyn's team made it into the top ten on the leaderboard.
Year 12 participant, Ruby, said:
"The simulation was really fast moving and fun, and a great way for everyone who took part to learn more about the economy and how you can use Economics in the real world."
The next Alleyn's Junior School Open Event is from 1.30pm to 3pm on Wednesday 22 May 2024. There will be a Head's Talk at 1.40pm after which you will be offered a tour of the school with a pupil. There is no need to book a place at this Open Event - everyone is welcome.
