Upper School student Arthur has had his work selected to appear in the Royal Academy Young Artists’ Summer Show 2021.
Primary and secondary pupils from across the UK can submit artwork to the Royal Academy for consideration, which is then judged by artists and arts professionals who select artworks to be displayed online and on-site at the Royal Academy of Arts in Piccadilly.
Arthur is heading to university to undertake a foundation course before then going on to study fashion design. It is a long-held passion of his and he has been making clothes for many years.
Arthur’s work that was selected for the Royal Academy show is described as follows:
'Limbo' is a character created that represents a someone going through a journey. The 'Cocoon' coat is a protective layer that holds emotions and helps protect you when on this journey from one world to another. This was made during the first covid lockdown. It is lined and padded with a mask that pulls over the face to disguise and protect the wearer. The coat has been made to be shown with some large-scale paintings and a series of small sculptures that tell the story of 'Limbo' his journey and his encounters.
Head of Alleyn's, Jane Lunnon said of Arthur's work: “This is just so Alleyn’s! Brilliant and quirky and a little obscure!”
You can see Arthur’s A level work, and that of all our talented A level and GCSE artists, at the Alleyn's Summer Show which will be available online towards the end of June.
There are also some free tickets still available for the upcoming RSA show on the their website and the full online gallery will be available to view from 13 July until 8 August.
Congratulations, Arthur, for your well-deserved success!
