Headmaster Dr Gary Savage has nominated ‘Smith’s Brick’ for the gallery. Unseen by many a visitor, there is a brick in the building housing the Art and DT Departments  which has the initials ‘JH Smith 1898’ inscribed in it.

The Rev JH Smith was the first Headmaster of Alleyn’s School, from 1882-1902. It is possible that he was commemorated in this brick to mark the construction of this building extension, four years after the original Science and Woodwork Block (current Art & Technology) was built in 1894.
