Careers Officer Elizabeth Ochagavia remembers the ‘Alfreds’. These were pocket-sized school rolls which were printed each year, listing all the classes with the names of the form tutors, their pupils in that form, their Houses, dates of birth, whether they were a scholar, had a sibling at the School. It also listed the names of staff. With the advent of databases and digitisation, the last paper ‘Alfred’ was produced in 2010-11. What we don’t know is why they were called ‘Alfreds’ and would welcome any reader who might be able to shed light on this mystery.
