Development and Alumni Sport

The football connection between alumni and the School was renewed when the Alleyn’s Old Boy Football Club (AOBFC) took on the current 1st and 2nd XI teams for EAC President’s Day on Saturday, 12 October.

Both games, held at the Edward Alleyn Club on Burbage Road, were fiercely competitive yet played in great spirits. However, there had to be a winner and the alumni teams claimed victory in both matches, with experience trumping youth on the day.

Players of the Match for Alleyn’s were Mehdi in Year 13 and Hugo in Year 12. Alumni Players of the Match were Robbie Matthews (Roper’s 2017), Paul Battle (Tulley’s 2020) and Liam Turner (Brading’s 2011).

After the matches, players and supporters gathered at the Edward Alleyn Clubhouse for a celebratory lunch, with alumni spanning the decades - including Derek Smith (Roper’s 1953) - joining the festivities. We were delighted to be joined by Paul Barber (Spurgeon’s 1979), Chair of the Edward Alleyn Club, and EAC President Reno Antoniades (Tulley’s 1984), whose efforts were instrumental in bringing everyone together for the day.

During lunch trophies were presented to the winning captains and we were delighted to hear from Reno, Chairman of the AOBFC Johnny Battle (Tulley’s 2013), and Head of Football at Alleyn's Ollie Beauchamp (Cribb’s 2013). They highlighted the importance of sport in strengthening lifelong connections between alumni and the School.

A huge thank you goes out to all the players and supporters who made the day a success. It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces back on the pitch and on the sidelines!
