Frequent MUN club-goers were joined by budding A level scientists and those with a keen interest in the topic being discussed: whether all global citizens should have right to water. The attendees ably debated this topical and increasingly pertinent issue, accurately representing the views of their respective nations.

The debate was a varied one, with arguments ranging from calls for rapid progress in combatting climate change, increased global support to the countries most affected and a gargantuan global effort to tackle water insecurity, to the more nationalistic approaches of safeguarding domestic water supplies and prioritising economic growth and development over tackling climate change.

The result was a victory for those advocating global cooperation and a major step towards tackling water insecurity. Perhaps the real UN could learn a thing or two.

MUN club will be on again next week, Tuesday lunchtime in S15, and we will be continuing our science journey by discussing the threat of extinction to species and the hugely important problem of biodiversity loss. Everyone is welcome.
