Two Alleyn’s alumni are back on screen this month in recently released films. Julian Glover (Roper’s 1952) stars in TÁR and Tom Brooke (Brading’s 1997) stars in Empire of Light.

TÁR is a film directed, written, and produced by Todd Field which follows the life and downfall of  renowned female composer-conductor Lydia Tár, portrayed by Cate Blanchett. Julian Glover (Roper’s 1952) is a prolific stage, television and film actor and is well known for his roles in The Empire Strikes Back, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Game of Thrones. Julian is a regular visitor back to Alleyn’s and we look forward to seeing him this Summer for the annual cricket reunion in June.

Tom Brooke (Brading’s 1997) stars alongside Olivia Colman, Micheal Ward, Colin Firth, Toby Jones, Crystal Clarke, Hannah Onslow and Tanya Moodie in Sam Mendes’ new film Empire of Light.  The film is a love story set in and around a beautiful old cinema on the South Coast of England in the 1980s where Hilary (Olivia Colman), a woman with a difficult past and an uneasy present, is part of a makeshift family at the old Empire Cinema on the seafront. When Stephen (Micheal Ward) is hired to work in the cinema, the two find an unlikely attraction and discover the healing power of movies, music and community.
