Rachel in Year 12 tells us about a fascinating trip to the global satellite communications company, One Web:

“On Wednesday 7 December, the Year 12 CanSat teams and Year 8 Rocket Club embarked on a trip to infinity and beyond… to One Web Headquarters in London.

“The pupils were given an insightful tour of the offices, including the ground station control room and scale models of currently operating satellites. They received a talk on the intricate inner networking of the satellite system and an introduction to what working at One Web would be like. It was a truly inspiring opportunity for the A-level STEM students of Alleyn’s, as they face the skies with their CanSat project.

“Both CanSat teams also presented their projects and received insightful feedback from the team at One Web.

“CanSat is a competition hosted by ESERO (the European Space Agency), where a team of up to six people will build a functional satellite the size of a can. The Alleyn’s Team Orion’s satellite launch will take place in spring 2023 and will be live streamed on their Instagram page (@Orion_Cansat), and their progress in this competition will be documented there.”

We look forward to seeing their progress! To find out more about their challenge, see Rachel’s video below:
