After last year’s much reduced service, the whole school gathered on Thursday 11 November to honour those who have fallen in the service of our country and our allies.
The morning service held in the quad was opened with a welcome prayer by Reverend Liz Lander who said, “Remembering is a powerful action. And by remembering we are committing ourselves to peace and justice”.
The address was followed by a reading by Head Mrs Lunnon from MCMXIV by Philip Larkin, a poem not just about the war but the impact of war on civilian lives and the world back home.
After music by the brass ensemble (For the Fallen by Douglas Guest) and led by senior cadets of the contingent, a guard of honour and drum corps performed the Drum Head Ceremony where the School Captain laid a wreath at the Drum Alter.
The Last Post sounded as the clock struck 11.00am to mark the start of a 2-minute silence and concluded with the Reveille, a reading from Junior School and Senior School captains and a final hymn ‘Dear Lord and Father of Mankind’ sung by the whole school.
On Sunday, a Service of Remembrance is held at Christ’s Chapel bringing the Edward Alleyn Club, Combined Cadet Forces from Alleyn’s, Dulwich College and JAGS and the local community together.
Junior School Open Day
The next Alleyn's Junior School Open Event is from 1.30pm to 3pm on Wednesday 22 May 2024. There will be a Head's Talk at 1.40pm after which you will be offered a tour of the school with a pupil. There is no need to book a place at this Open Event - everyone is welcome.
