Every year Year 9 Saddlers' Scholars visit the Saddlers’ Hall so that the Prime Warden and the Clerk can meet the pupils again after their visit to Alleyn's when they are presented with their ties in Year 7. On this occasion they were joined by the Year 10 Saddlers' Scholars, who were unable to attend last year due to Covid restrictions.

During the visit the scholars heard about the history of the Saddlers' Hall and a more detailed account of the special relationship between the Company and Alleyn's. Brigadier Napier gave the group a scintillating whistle-stop tour through the history, allowing time for questions from pupils and parents followed by a tour of the magnificent building given by the Beadle.

The pupils demonstrated how the 'Loving Cup' is passed down the Top Table but the big surprise was some delicious chocolates, which were gratefully received! The scholars thoroughly enjoyed listening to tales, looking closely at the intricate saddles, art and extensive and glorious silver collection - not to mention delicious tea and cakes. They very much look forward to keeping the Prime Warden and the Clerk updated over the coming two years and meeting with them again at Alleyn's in Year 12.

Our relationship with the Saddlers dates back over almost 50 years and, since 1971, more than 300 pupils have been awarded a Saddlers' Scholarship. More recently, the company has also funded bursary places at Alleyn's, continuing to provide transformative support to pupils at Alleyn's.
