During the Easter term all children in Year Six were entered for the online Junior Memory Championship which is a pioneering educational project from The Learning Skills Foundation. Now going into its eleventh year, the competition promotes memory techniques in schools, working with teachers to introduce pupils to the benefits of powerful learning strategies.

Over 25,000 children took part in this competition nationwide and we were delighted to have two children, Milo and Georgie, score highly enough to be invited along to the final which was held on Sunday 23 June at ZSL London Zoo. The twenty highest scoring entrants in the country were put through their paces by the championship's Founder, the author and former World Memory Champion Jonathan Hancock. This year's challenges included memory tests about the nearby Regent's Park, as well as numbers, words, and a collection of names and faces.

Milo and Georgie are to be congratulated on reaching this final which was an amazing achievement. To our delight, on the day Milo was awarded third place and Georgie, a very respectable ninth. Milo secured the top score for his recall of forty names of faces and Georgie received top marks for her comprehension recall test. The results of all the sub-tests were totalled to give the overall placings.

In the words of eminent Professor Sue Gathercole OBE, Cognitive Psychologist specialising in Memory, Learning and Language Cognition at the University of Cambridge: Memory is the first stage of learning."

Congratulations to Milo and Georgie who have have certainly demonstrated this skill at a young age.
