Forty-Two of our Year 10 students travelled to Brussels for four days of STEM experiences, starting with their arrival at a stunning hotel under glorious sunshine. Their journey began with a 2km subterranean walk through the captivating Belgian Caves of Han. The students then explored the Han Nature Reserve, trekking 7 miles and witnessing some exceptional European predators in their natural habitat.

On Wednesday their fun continued with a visit to the European Space Center. Here, the students experienced astronaut training, including a moon walk simulator, and the building and launching of solid fuel rockets. This hands-on experience sparked their imaginations and gave them a glimpse into the life of those working in the space industry.

Thursday, the students delved into the wonders of the Brussels Museum of Natural Sciences. They engaged with palaeontology, and learning how the mass of dinosaurs is calculated from the maximum stress a bone of their certain size and cross-sectional area can support. This fascinating insight into paleontology captivated their curiosity.

The final highlight of their trip was a visit to the iconic Atomium, where they enjoyed panoramic views of Brussels. After a day filled with educational and thrilling activities, the Year 10 students headed home, enriched with new knowledge and unforgettable memories from their adventure in Belgium.
