If you had to choose a moment in history to be born, and you did not know ahead of time who you would be – you didn’t know whether you were going to be born into a wealthy family or a poor family, what country you’d be born in, whether you were going to be a man or a woman – if you had to choose blindly what moment you’d want to be born, you’d choose now” – Barack Obama.

Seated in the MCT observing students from various corners of the globe passionately representing their countries' stances on complex global challenges such as universal access to abortion and the sovereignty of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, it may seem puzzling why one would opt to be born in this era. However, witnessing the maturity, leadership, and engagement exhibited by this talented group of students instilled a profound sense of hope, and a feeling that seemed to indicate that the future may indeed be in capable hands.

The Alleyn’s International MUN event marked our inaugural international Model United Nations conference. This student-led and organized event was a testament to the dedication of all the students involved in its planning, including those from our partner school, Institut St Dominique in Pau, southern France. We were also delighted to welcome several state and independent schools from across the country, multiple delegations from international schools in France, and notably, a delegation from an international school in Baghdad, Iraq.

In a first for Alleyn’s and London, we hosted the Model Arctic Council, facilitated by Dr. Anthony Speca. The atmosphere was one of remarkable collaboration, fostering intense academic engagement and skill development in consensus building, expertly guided by a global leader in geopolitical issues concerning the Arctic region.

We take pride in the 35 Alleyn’s students who participated as delegates, some of whom were new to Model UN, many of whom received awards or honorable mentions. All were actively involved in the proceedings, contributing written resolutions, and engaging in debates on these critical global issues.

A very special thank you to our Secretary Generals, Esmé (Yr 12) and Moji (Yr 12) who led on this.

- Dr. Matthew Greetham-MUN Coordinator.
