Twelve of our Year 12 students travelled to Imperial College London last Saturday to participate in the UK Space Design Competition.

Our students were merged into a company of 50 that included students from four other schools.  They spent seven hours meticulously designing a moon settlement. Their design covered important aspects of human life on the moon, from the integrity of the structural engineering to the agricultural systems needed to feed the inhabitants.

Our students worked collaboratively within a large group on feasibility calculations and lots of CAD. The team then presented their plan to a judging panel of PhD Engineering students. Though we did not take home the winning prize, our students have had an invaluable experience and gained knowledge that they can take into the next competition.
