In a display of teamwork, creativity, and culinary arts, the Year 7 MasterChef competition unfolded this week, transforming the school kitchen into a hub of excitement and delicious aromas. Tasked with cooking a main and a dessert to be tasted and judged by Mrs. Lunnon, our teams of Year 7 chefs demonstrated remarkable composure as they collaborated to whip up an array of mouthwatering dishes.
The theme for the evening was ‘Flavours of the Levant’ which delivered a delicious lineup of main courses including succulent lamb koftas, refreshing cous cous salad, handmade flatbreads and pitta breads. Pushing the boundaries of culinary creativity, an authentic mezze and inventive pea zaatar with preserved lemon fritters were also plated up.
Dessert enthusiasts would be impressed by the variety of sweet creations brought to the table. From the rich and tempting semolina cake to the indulgent chocolate and ginger tart, apple cannoli, baklava, and saffron fritters, the dessert offerings were as diverse as they were delightful.
As the competition heated up, two standout dishes emerged victorious:
Main Course Champions (7E): Mezze Mastery
A culinary masterpiece from 7E, featured a delightful Mezze platter with handmade pitta, flavorful falafel, and a succulent chicken kebab combined to create a dish that impressed both the taste buds and the judges.
Dessert Delight (7F): Chocolate Babka Bliss
7F took the dessert crown with their exquisite creation – a Chocolate Babka accompanied by homemade rose water and cardamom ice cream. A perfect blend of sweetness and sophistication that left everyone craving more.
When it came to determining the overall champions, 7E emerged as the undisputed victors. Their authentic and tantalizing Mezze, coupled with a delightful semolina cake, secured their place as the culinary maestros of the Year 7 MasterChef competition.
The event showcased the pupils' culinary talents while highlighting the importance of teamwork and creative expression in the kitchen. Congratulations to all the participants for turning the Year 7 MasterChef into an unforgettable gastronomic experience! Next up, Year 8 MasterChef next week.
