In a strong display of Alleyn’s spirit, grit and determination, the U18 Hockey Girls have secured the U19 Cup in the Girls ISHC National Finals this week.
The team made the journey to Nottingham to play against some fierce competition, and after a monstrous 4-0 win over Solihull School in the Semi-Final, they progressed through to the Final which was played that same afternoon.
Up against Clifton College, it was an exhilarating Final of fast paced, technical hockey. Clifton College have a strong representation of England U18 and U21 players, creating a very close game.
The girls matched and managed some very fast, skilful players, and took some fast, connected, attacking play to the Clifton defensive circle on numerous occasions.
The Alleyn’s girls secured the 1-0 win with an absolute screamer of a reverse stick shot from Isy Key - shot from a very tight angle near the left-hand baseline, rocketing into the top right corner of the net. This was then backed up by the incredible defence and hard work of absolutely every team member. Once 1-0 up it was all about control and defence. Despite Clifton throwing everything at the team in their attempt to come back, Alleyn’s stood strong and dug deep to keep the ball out of the net.
Assistant Director of Sport and Hockey legend, Mrs. Wilson-Rowe was completely thrilled with the play and outcome, stating;
‘I was so incredibly impressed with the girl's determination, skill, work ethic and game intellect - it was an absolute joy to see in action.
‘What was most pleasing was their recognition of the players who couldn’t play yesterday and yet their full understanding that every player in the team has made such significant contributions over the last few months to make yesterday possible.’
The cumulation of months, and for some players years, of work, this is an achievement that our players, coaches and school will wear as a badge of honour for a long time coming.

Junior School Open Day
The next Alleyn's Junior School Open Event is from 1.30pm to 3pm on Wednesday 22 May 2024. There will be a Head's Talk at 1.40pm after which you will be offered a tour of the school with a pupil. There is no need to book a place at this Open Event - everyone is welcome.
