Get ready to rock and roll because Alleyn’s Battle of the Bands is back for its third year, and it's bigger and better than ever. This year, due to the huge number of bands itching to take the stage, we've got not one, but two epic events lined up.

The music battle unfolds at the MCT this Thursday, January 18. Lower School BOTB (Years 7+8) kicks off the party from 5:30-6:30 pm, followed by Senior BOTB (Years 9-13) who take to the stage from 7:30-9:00 pm.

Miss. Wynter shared her excitement for the upcoming musical extravaganza;

‘Battle of the Bands has grown so much in the last 2 years that we've had to split it into two separate events: the Lower school show kicking off at 5.30pm and then the Senior School show starting at 7.30pm.

‘Two years ago, we had 12 bands and this year we have 21, so it's just brilliant that this has become such a staple event in the Alleyn's calendar. We have students from across the school performing and perhaps the best thing about it is that it's more or less student-led, so the students have been organising practice time themselves with very little teacher input.

‘I can't wait to see who is crowned winners this year - it's set to be a spectacular event! And this year we will be in the MCT, which is even better!’

Some of the spotlight-stealers on the stage include Anaphalactix, last year's Junior Winners, The Rockin' Distortion from Year 9, The Soulful Promenade from Year 12, and Atonement, Senior School Runners Up from 2023. On the judging panel are dynamic duo, ex-Alleyn’s Music teacher and music maestro Jason Thompson, alongside Sam White, a globetrotting singer with a penchant for pop and soul.

Anaphalactix, last year's Lower School winners, couldn’t contain their enthusiasm for the event, stating;

'We won the Lower School prize last year and since then have gone onto perform at many other events, notably Celebration Day.

‘Battle of the Bands is such a cool night because it's all about the students and it's nice to see lots of different songs performed that students themselves have chosen. Playing music with friends is one of our favourite things to do so it's great that the school supports this and holds an event like this. We're hoping to clinch the Senior prize this year with an original song - let's wait and see!’

Get ready for a night of music and fierce competition. Alleyn’s Battle of the Bands 2024 is about to hit the stage, and you won't want to miss a moment.
